About Peter Davis
I am a social realist painter.
Unlike my painting for #portraitsfornhsheroes, the majority of my figurative compositions focus on someone absorbed in their personal technology – whilst their bodies are physically present their minds are elsewhere. Personal technology is blurring our physical and digital worlds and making us fundamentally rethink what it means to be human. I like my paintings to feel technically beautiful. There is an intentional dichotomy between my technology-centric images and my traditional painting process.
I am a member of the Contemporary British Portrait Painters (CBPP), an elected council member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (MAFA) and have won numerous professional painting prizes. In 2017 and 2019 I was shortlisted by Artists & Illustrators Magazine for Artist of the Year.
I am currently taking on portrait commissions and I have written a ‘Guide to Commissioning a Portrait’ which, if you contact me, I would be happy to send you for free.
Portraits for NHS Heroes
Subject: Steph Hedge, Staff nurse. St James’s University Hospital, Leeds
Original Artwork: 46cm x 36cm, acrylic on canvas board
Quote from the Subject:
“I am a newly qualified nurse and love my job, but the past few months have
been really tough. The #portraitsfornhsheroes project is such a lovely thing and
it’s so kind of all the artists that have got involved. Peter’s portrait of me is
absolutely amazing, I LOVE it!”
