Self-taught artist John Doe sold his first artwork when he was only thirteen-years-old and has since exhibited his paintings in London, Rome, Venice, Milan and New York.

After discovering his mother’s fine art encyclopedia as a child, John became obsessed with both the intense colour palettes of the Dutch Masters and J M W Turner’s use of light. Since those early years, John has focused on light and the effect it has on determining mood, from dramatic sunsets to grey mists to smoky skies, he conjures atmosphere with paint.

John lives in Bath but often travels to his ‘spiritual home’ in Suffolk in search of inspiration.

John says: “I want to capture the drama of ‘real life’ in my paintings, which is why I always find myself drawn towards the sky. No matter how mundane our day, we are always treated to contrasts of light and dark and ever-moving colours. Seeing this organic performance come to life on canvas is the ultimate thrill of being an artist.”
