Project Description
About Angela Bell
Focusing primarily on portraiture, my current body of work consists of small scale oils, exploring the themes of origins and belonging. The work is developed from a variety of source material including found photographs. The images are manipulated and reinterpreted through the application and exploration of mark making techniques. These depictions of people’s lives have been retrieved and revived in the form of intimate oils. In my work I look not to dictate a specific meaning but rather to prompt either some form of recognition or inspire curiosity and for the viewer to determine their individual narrative.
My work has been selected for numerous exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Royal Ulster Academy. I am a member of the Contemporary British Portrait Painters and I have been awarded the Dry Red Press Award, LARA Portrait Award and an Award with the Jacksons Painting Prize.
Education:
Having achieved a BA Hons in Fine Art at the University of Ulster I furthered my artist development at the Norwich School of Art and Design achieving a Masters in Fine Art.
